About Noble County Parks and Recreation
Welcome to the home of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Department. The NCPRD was created in 2011 to serve the residents of Noble County.
In November of 2007, after the adoption of the new Noble County Comprehensive Plan in June 2007, the idea for a county-wide effort to preserve and protect the county's many environmental and recreation assets was presented to Noble County Council members Don Moore and Mark Pankop, and Plan Director Steve Kirkpatrick. The proposal was well-received, and Steve sent out an initial request to a variety of individuals he thought may be interested, seeking feedback and ideas. Then, a county-wide task force was formed to brainstorm further. Initial responses were very encouraging!
That original task force met, periodically, for a couple of years, made up of a variety of individuals and representatives from the LaGrange County Park Board, ACRES Land Trust, Wood-Land-Lakes, Noble County city and town park board members, the Noble County Council and Board of Commissioners, Plan Commission, and others.
After getting over and around several obstacles along the way, the Noble County Department of Parks and Recreation was established in the Spring of 2010. In accordance with Indiana Code I.C. 36-10-3, General Ordinance No. 2010-1 was passed unanimously by the Noble County Council on May 3, 2010. Appointments for the initial Noble County Parks and Recreation Board were made and the first Board meeting was held on January 26, 2011. That meeting was facilitated by County Councilman Jerry Janson.
The Noble County Parks and Recreation Department Board of Directors is comprised of six dedicated individuals appointed from across the county and is intent on fulfilling its obligations to the citizens of Noble County.
