NOBLE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD

MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 28, 2016 MEETING

Present: Ray Scott, Scott Allen, James Haddock, Doug Keenan, John Metzger

Guests: Steve Hook, GIS Coordinator.

The September 28, 2016 meeting of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board was called to order at 10:05 AM by President Ray Scott.

The Minutes of the August 24, 2016 meeting were approved as sent.

Old Business:

Website: Scott Allen may be moving the Noble County Parks and Recreation Website from Google to Wix. This will make the website better.

Noble Trails: The Dekko Foundation has granted $100,000.00 to Noble Trails, plus another matching grant of $100,000. This is a big boost for Noble Trails. The ribbon cutting ceremony for the paved portion of the trail near Gene Stratton Porter was a success. Several people are already walking and biking on the trail.

Take a Stroll Saturdays. There is one more hike to go, this time at Lonidaw Nature Preserve on October 8. The weather has been a problem at several of the hikes this year. The public is not coming out as we had hoped.

New Business:

Future Events. Discussion was held for events for next year and following years. It was decided that future walks would need a reason for the walks. Topics or themes would make the walks more meaningful. Speakers or guides could lead groups on the hikes, pointing out different items in the woods. Sponsors and partners for the walks would be helpful. Suggestions included Parkview Noble, schools, Gene Stratton Porter, Chain-O-Lakes State Park, YMCA and Fitness Centers.

Other ideas for the future included tree plantings and fishing contests.

A brochure listing the different trails in Noble County could be created and placed in health care facilities and fitness centers.

Meeting adjourned at 11:10 AM

Next meeting – Wednesday, October 26, at 10:00 AM at the Noble County Public Library.
