NOBLE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD

MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 25, 2017 MEETING

Present: Ray Scott, Scott Allen, Zach Becker, Doug Keenan.

Guests: Steve Hook, Noble County GIS, Matt Getts, KPC Media, Terry Gaff, Noble Trails.

The January 25, 2017 meeting of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board was called to order at 10:00 AM by President Ray Scott. Zach Becker was welcomed as a new Board member from Ligonier.

The Minutes of the December 7, 2016 meeting were approved as sent.

The Election of Officers took place, with the following results:

Ray Scott – President

Scott Allen – Vice President

Doug Keenan - Secretary

Old Business:

Master Plan. The Master Plan will not need to be revised until January of 2019. Zach Becker has a copy of the Master Plan.

Web Site. Thank you to Scott Allen for his great work on the Website. Scott noted that the new platform is better to work with. The link has changed to noblecoparks.wixsite.com/website. Steve Hook, GIS Coordinator, will repair the links to the new website from the Noble County Government Website.

New Business:

Take a Stroll Saturdays for 2017. The dates and locations for Take a Stroll Saturdays were approved, with Board Member assignments and partners as follows:

May 27 – Parkview Noble Hospital trail. Ray Scott, Parkview Noble Hospital.

June 24 – Hidden Diamonds Park, Albion. Doug Keenan, Albion Parks Department.

July 22 – Elkhart River Canoe/Kayak Event. John Metzger, Gene Lightner.

August 26 – Noble Trails, Beginning at Detering Preserve. Jim Haddock, Acres Land Trust.

September 23 – Merry Lea Environmental Center. Zach Becker, Merry Lea.

October 28 – Fishing Line Trail. Scott Allen, Noble Trails.

Posters and flyers will be created.

Noble Trails. Terry Gaff and Scott Allen reported on the good progress being made on the Fishing Line Trail. 1 ¼ miles has been paved, with 1 ½ miles scheduled to be paved this year. Clearing and preparation is being completed, and the path from Rome City to Kendallville will be open in the near future. The trail will be 12.1 miles when completed. The website is nobletrails.org.

Meeting adjourned at 11:00 AM

Next meeting – Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Noble County Public Library.
