NOBLE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD

MINUTES OF THE APRIL 26, 2017 MEETING

Present: Ray Scott, Scott Allen, Zach Becker, James Haddock, Doug Keenan.

Guests: Steve Hook, Noble County GIS, Kenneth Hughes, Noble County Plan Commission Director.

The April 26, 2017 meeting of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board was called to order at 10:00 AM by President Ray Scott.

The Minutes of the March 22, 2017 meeting were approved as sent.

Old Business:

Web Site. Scott Allen reported that a calendar of events is active now. Scott will add events to the calendar as he receives them. The website URL is: www.noblecoparks.wixsite.com/website .

Steve Hook reported that there is a Take A Stroll layer on the Beacon Site.

Take a Stroll Saturdays for 2017. The dates and locations are:

May 27 – Parkview Noble Hospital trail. Ray Scott, Parkview Noble Hospital.

June 24 – Hidden Diamonds Park, Albion. Doug Keenan, Albion Parks Department.

July 22 – Elkhart River Canoe/Kayak Event. John Metzger, Gene Lightner.

August 26 – Noble Trails, Beginning at Detering Preserve. Jim Haddock, Acres Land Trust.

September 23 – Merry Lea Environmental Center. Zach Becker, Merry Lea.

October 28 – Fishing Line Trail. Scott Allen, Noble Trails.

Zach Becker will be working with Becky and Randy Younce to promote the Elkhart River Event with students at West Noble Schools. The school owns 16 canoes which might be available for the canoeing/kayaking event.

Scott Allen will prepare a news release for the May 27 event with Parkview Noble.

Doug Keenan will contact Casey Myers with the Albion Parks Department for the June 24 event. Steve Hook will check with the Albion Rotary Club on the possibility of having a polio walk in partnership with the June 24 event.

Strawberry Valley Cultural Trail and the Noble Trails were both approved for grant funding! Noble Trails. Scott Allen reported that Noble Trails will be having a 5K run April 29 70 runners have already signed up. The website is www.nobletrails.org .

New Business:

Kenneth Hughes, Plan Director for the Noble County Plan Commission, reported on the Comprehensive Plan for Noble County. The Plan will be updated in the near future. Mapping and feasibility studies will be added. Public meetings will be held, and a steering committee will be starting soon on the update. Recreation and trails will be featured in the Comprehensive Plan. Kenneth hopes to have the Plan updated early in 2018.
