NOBLE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 28, 2018 MEETING
Present: Ray Scott, Scott Allen, John Metzger, Doug Keenan.
Guests: Matt Getts, KPC Media; Kenneth Hughes, Noble County Plan Director.
The February 28, 2018 meeting of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board was called to order by President Ray Scott at 10:00 AM.
The Minutes of the January 31, 2018 meeting were approved as sent.
Old Business:
Master Plan Update – April, 20, 2019 is the due date for submission of the Master Plan Update. Scott Allen noted that things have not changed significantly since the Master Plan was prepared. Kenneth Hughes, Noble County Plan Director, discussed with the Board possibilities for the update of the Master Plan. The update of the Master Plan could be done “in house” and the Planning Department has some funding that could help with the update. This is a good time for the update, as the Noble County Comprehensive Plan is being updated, and much of the information for the Parks update has already been compiled. The Noble County Parks and Recreation Board will make a final decision at the March 28 meeting.
Website Review – Scott Allen has asked that other groups who are having events to partner with the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board by contacting the Board through the website.
“Take a Stroll” Program – Tentative dates for the 2018 Take A Stroll Saturdays are as follows:
May 26, 9:00 AM – Parkview Noble Trail. In partnership with Parkview Noble Center for Healthy Living.
June 2, 9:00 AM – Fishing Line Trail. In partnership with Noble Trails. Scott Allen will check with Noble Trails.
July 28, 9:00 AM – Canoeing/Kayaking Event on Elkhart River. In partnership with West Lakes Association.
August 25, 1:30 PM – Bixler Lake Trail. In partnership with Kendallville Parks Department. A barbecue cookoff will follow.
September 22, 9:00 AM – Chain O Lakes State Park. In partnership with Indiana Department of Natural Resources and National Public Lands Day. Free park admittance.
Ligonier Strawberry Valley Greenway – Developments are continuing with the trail.
Noble Trails program – Plans are being made for a 5K run again this year.
New Business – We still need a representative from the Ligonier area on the Board.
