NOBLE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
MINUTES OF THE MAY 23, 2018 MEETING
Present: Scott Allen, Jim Haddock, Doug Keenan
Guests: Matt Getts, KPC Media.
The May 23, 2018 meeting of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board was called to order by Vice President Scott Allen at 10:05 AM.
The Minutes of the April 25, 2018 meeting were approved as sent.
Old Business:
No new action items from the Master Plan were determined.
Website Review – The website is working well. We appreciate Scott Allen keeping the website up to date.
“Take a Stroll” Program – Dates for the 2018 Take A Stroll Saturdays are as follows:
Jim Haddock reported on the May 19 Take a Stroll event at Parkview Noble Trail. Ray Scott, Jim Haddock and three people from Parkview Wellness were there.
Upcoming Take a Stroll Events:
June 2, 9:00 AM – Fishing Line Trail. Parking is at Christ My Rock Church on the corner of 450 E and 800 N. This event is in partnership with Noble Trails, in conjunction with National Trails Day. Scott Allen is in charge. Scott Allen wrote and sent the press release.
July 28, 9:00 AM – Canoeing/Kayaking Event on Elkhart River. In partnership with West Lakes Association. Jim Haddock will check with West Lakes Association for details.
August 25, 1:30 PM – Bixler Lake Trail. In partnership with Kendallville Parks Department. A barbecue cookoff will follow. Jim Haddock will check with the Kendallville Parks Department on fees and parking. Several trail options are available.
September 22, 9:00 AM – Chain O Lakes State Park. In partnership with Indiana Department of Natural Resources and National Public Lands Day. Free park admittance. Doug Keenan is in charge.
Ligonier Strawberry Valley Greenway – No new developments.
Noble Trails program – The Fishing Trail 5K was held on April 28, 2018. 93 participated in this event. More paving has been done, and there will be 5 miles paved when this phase is completed.
We are still lacking a Board member from the west side of the county.
