NOBLE COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD MINUTES OF THE MARCH 27, 2019 MEETING

Present: Ray Scott, Jeff Boyle, Scott Allen, James Haddock, John Metzger, Doug Keenan.

Guests: Matt Getts, KPC Media; Kenneth Hughes, Noble County Plan Commission; Lori Gagen, Noble County EDC; Gene Lightner, public.

The March 27, 2019 meeting of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board was called to order by President Ray Scott at 10:00 AM.

The Minutes of the February 27, 2019 meeting were approved as corrected.

Old Business: Five Year Master Plan Update: President Ray Scott convened the public hearing on the Noble County Parks and Recreation Five Year Plan Update at 10:05 AM. Kenneth Hughes, Director of the Noble County Plan Commission, presented the final draft of the Five Year Master Plan Update for Noble County Parks and Recreation. After further review of the Plan, Kenneth Hughes will make a few corrections to the Plan and submit the plan to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Ray Scott Closed the public hearing at 10:20 AM.

Scott Allen moved to approve the Five Year Master Plan Update with the corrections noted during the public hearing. Jeff Boyle seconded and the motion carried.

Website/Facebook Page: No pictures of winter recreation activities have been posted to the page yet. Lori Gagen tried to post photos to the Noble County Parks and Recreation Facebook Page, but it would not let her. Lori and Scott will work on getting the page so pictures can be posted. Discussion was held on improving our social media presence, including different platforms of social media. When the Five Year Master Plan Update is completed, it will be posted to the Website and Facebook Page.

“Take a Stroll” Program: We will not be offering Take A Stroll Saturdays in 2019.

Winter Recreation Photo Contest: No entries have been made for the winter recreation photo contest, which ends March 31. A spring photo contest will be held from April 1 – June 30, with the theme: “Do-ing” Spring (Hik-ing, Bik-ing, Canoe-ing, Kayak-ing, Fish-ing, etc.). This would fit in well with the Noble County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Emily is the new media and marketing person at CVB.

Noble Trails: Scott Allen reported that Noble Trails will be hosting a 5K Run on April 27. Information is available at www.nobletrails.org . Noble Trails will be offering service clubs and other groups the opportunity to clean different sections of Fishing Line Trail.

New Business:

New Marketing and Social Media: Lori Gagen offered to help with the social media and marketing aspects of the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board.

Meeting adjourned at 11:30 AM. Next meeting – April 24, 2019 at 10:00 AM.
