Final Take-a-Stroll Saturday Scheduled

Even though summer is winding down, taking a stroll in the woods will still benefit you with fresh air and memories of green as the leaves start to turn for autumn. What a better setting for a hike than along a lake shore in the woods? In cooperation with the Chain O’Lakes State Park, the Noble County Parks and Recreation Board’s final 2018 “Take-A-Stroll” event explores one of the best natural assets in the County.

On Saturday, September 22, 2018, Chain O’Lakes State Park celebrates National Public Lands Day by waving all entry fees into the park. In addition to a hike leaving from the beach at 9:00 am, the staff at the park will also hold several other events throughout the day. You can participate in removing invasive species in the afternoon, meet an 18th century fur trader at 2:00 pm, or join in activities at the historic Stanley Schoolhouse all day.

Chain O’Lakes State Park is a 2,700 acre park with ten miles of forested trails, nine connected lakes with great fishing, boat rentals, camping facilities, a beach, and a nature center. Located south of Albion on State Road 9, the park is centrally located for all of Noble County’s residents.

On a Saturday each month from May through September, the Board has worked with other local organizations to host “Take-A-Stroll Saturday”, a trail hike featuring an area trail. The hikes highlighted the variety of facilities that Noble County has to offer. They also gave local organizations the opportunity to interact with the public and promote their missions.

The Noble County Parks and Recreation Board is also in the midst of updating our Master Plan for 2019 by gathering public input. The Board uses the comments of the residents of Noble County to determine the direction and focus for the Board over the next few years. Input can be left through an on-line survey at http://bit.ly/NobleParksPlan.

The Noble County Parks and Recreation Board was created in 2010 by the County Council in response to a recommendation in the 2007 Noble County Comprehensive Plan. After assessing the recreational assets throughout the County, the Board’s current mission is to promote the recreational opportunities that exist. In public input sessions in 2013 and 2014, citizens cited trails as the most desired recreational facility.

Questions about “Take-A-Stroll Saturday” should be addressed to Ray Scott, Noble County Parks and Recreation Board President, at 260-347-2210.

Questions for Chain O’Lakes State Park activities can be addressed to Ms. Kaitlyn Sproles at 260-636-2654.
